Delhi teen allegedly gang-raped by 3 men posing as cops; 1 arrested

Police said that three men disguised as police officers allegedly gang-raped a teenage girl at a park near Kalkaji Mandir in south-east Delhi. One of the accused was arrested after an exchange of fire with police and efforts are underway to trace the other two.

Police said the incident took place on Monday evening when the girl went to Kalkaji Mandir with a male friend and later went to a nearby park. The three men, aged about 25 to 30 years, reportedly accosted the teenagers, claiming to be police officers and threatened them with legal action.

One of the men held back her friend and the other two allegedly attacked her. The Indian Express quoted the girl’s statement. A call was received in the control room of the police around 8:45 p.m. and the girl was taken for medical examination.

The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and relevant Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections were used by the police to open a case.

PTI reported that the accused, identified as Asif, allegedly fired three rounds at a police team when officers intercepted him in south-east Delhi. The police opened fire in self-defence, injuring Asif in the leg. A bullet hit the bulletproof jacket of a head constable. AIMS Trauma Centre received him.
