Eight militants killed in North Waziristan operation, Pakistani media report
Pakistani security forces killed eight militants in an operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province’s North Waziristan district, Pakistani media said.
The operation was carried out in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan, security sources said. Details about when the operation occurred and whether there were casualties among security personnel were not immediately available.
The reported operation comes as militant violence persists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a region bordering Afghanistan that’s been the scene of frequent attacks by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP.
The military has in the past described TTP militants as “Khawarij”, and the group remains banned in Pakistan. Islamabad has often accused the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan of allowing TTP militants to operate from Afghan soil, a charge Kabul denies.
A separate security operation in North Waziristan on Sept. 23 reportedly killed four militants in Datta Khel, the South Asia Terrorism Portal said. The claim of casualties could not be independently verified.
