Iran says it won’t bow to pressure, remains open to talks
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Wednesday that Tehran would not give in to US pressure but was open to diplomacy to end the war, with Washington and Tehran still at odds over terms of a possible settlement.
Addressing the UN General Assembly, Pezeshkian accused President Donald Trump of having a “bullying mentality” and said threats would only harden Iran’s resolve. “The Iranian people will not bow to pressure,” he said.
His comments followed the first indirect US Iran talks in months, in which a senior Iranian official said the two sides remained far apart but must continue diplomacy. Tehran is considering Washington’s reaction to Iranian proposals that include lifting a US naval blockade and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the official said.
Pezeshkian said Iran was ready to resolve tensions through negotiations but would not accept the language of force. The US delegation walked out at the start of his speech, Reuters reported.
