Sudan military says air defences shot down FH-95 drone

Sudan’s military said its air defences shot down an FH-95 drone in the state of North Kordofan, as fighting between the army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces continues to heat up across the region.

The Sudanese Armed Forces said the drone was shot down north-east of the Al – Kukaiti area, but did not say who launched it or whether there were casualties. The state-run Sudan News Agency, SUNA, carried the statement.

“With the help and grace of God, our air defences today managed to shoot down a hostile FH-95 drone north of the Al-Kukaiti area in North Kordofan state,” the armed forces said in a statement, according to Sudan Tribune.

The military did not directly link the drone to the RSF. The group of paramilitaries often uses FH-95 drones to attack military and civilian targets, Anadolu Agency reported.

The incident came as the army said it had repelled drone attacks on the capital of North Kordofan, El Obeid. Local sources told Sudan Tribune that several sites in the city had come under attack by drones loaded with explosives.

North Kordofan has become a major front line in the war between the army and the RSF that has raged in Sudan since April 2023.
