Adani Group unveils Rs 4,000 crore hospital, Rs 1 lakh crore Bengal investment plan

In addition to launching a Rs 4,000 crore healthcare project in Kolkata, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has announced plans to invest more than Rs 1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035, ThePrint reported.

The foundation stone for the 2,000-bed Adani Arogya Mandir was laid Thursday in New Town, marking the conglomerate’s first major healthcare venture in the state. The not-for-profit facility will include a medical college and research infrastructure and is expected to create some 10,000 jobs.

The 1,000 beds will be for economically weaker sections under state and central health insurance schemes, Adani said. The project will cover 51.75 acres and is likely to be completed in three years, the Adani Group said.

“We expect to invest over Rs 1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035,” Adani said adding that the planned investments would cover ports, logistics, renewable energy, power, roads, green cement and hyperscale data centres.

The group also signed agreements with the West Bengal government for restoration of Kolkata’s historic Writers’ Building and to support the city’s Durga Puja celebrations.

This comes at a time when the Adani group is looking at diversifying beyond its traditional infrastructure and power businesses.
