Trump posts ‘Trump Strait’ map after Iran offers 7-day Hormuz deal

Tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high after US President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in seven days and resume talks.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran proposed Qatar’s offer to restore normal maritime passage within seven days if the US lifted its naval blockade of Iranian ports, eased sanctions on Iranian oil exports and respected a ceasefire covering the region and Lebanon.

Trump on Friday also posted a map on Truth Social showing the Strait of Hormuz labelled “Trump Strait”, according to media reports.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump rejected the seven-day offer and told aides he expected US bombing of Iran to resume after the midterm elections in November. The report, citing US officials, said the scale and timing of any renewed strikes was not clear.

Trump said he expected a deal with Iran after the US election, and Iran has sought to link reopening of the strategic waterway to easing US military and economic pressure.
