Sikh community protests in Jammu, seeks restoration of Punjabi as official language in JK

Sikh community youth join Jammu Punjabi Morcha, extend support to Punjabi language demand

Jammu: A massive “Jammu Punjabi Morcha” was organised on Sunday by the Sikh community and civil society of Jammu & Kashmir to press for the long-pending demand to restore Punjabi as an official language of J&K, as it was before 2019.

A Sikh youth delegation comprising YES founder Sardar Pardeep Singh Ji, young political leader Angad Singh Khalsa, Advocate Jasmeet Singh, SYFJK President Gurkirat Singh, Mohammad Jasarath Khan of the Bhim Army, and others participated in the Morcha and extended their support and solidarity to the ongoing indefinite sit-in protest.

While addressing the Morcha, the leaders strongly condemned what they described as the continued neglect of the Punjabi language and issues concerning the Sikh community in J&K. They asserted that Punjabi is not merely a language but their identity, heritage and mother tongue, and said that any attempt to erase it would not be tolerated.

The Morcha unanimously demanded the immediate restoration of Punjabi as an official language and concrete action on all pending issues concerning the Sikh community.

The Punjabi Morcha also warned the administration that if their demands were not fulfilled immediately, the agitation would be intensified at every level through democratic and peaceful means.
