Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have left at least 600,000 people without electricity, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Wednesday, accusing Moscow of deliberately targeting facilities covered by a proposed energy ceasefire.

The overnight attacks struck Kyiv, the surrounding region and Kharkiv, damaging 30 energy facilities, including 26 electricity infrastructure sites and four oil and gas facilities, Zelenskyy said. At least three people were killed in Kyiv, while dozens were injured, Ukrainian authorities said.

“The strike was entirely deliberate and demonstrative in its scale — Russia has never before shown such ostentatious disrespect toward the United States,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.

US President Donald Trump announced an “energy ceasefire” between Russia and Ukraine on Sunday, saying both sides had agreed to halt attacks on energy infrastructure. However, neither Moscow nor Kyiv confirmed the arrangement.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had struck power plants and other infrastructure in the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions.

The attacks also disrupted railway infrastructure in five Ukrainian regions, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said.

The strikes have raised concerns about electricity and heating supplies as Ukraine prepares for winter. Zelenskyy urged Washington to impose tougher sanctions on Russia and provide additional air defence missiles.
