Shikhar Dhawan, the India opener, has said he will take legal action against the organisers of the World T20 Continent Cup after his name was added to the Asia Warriors squad without his knowledge or permission. The tournament is set to take place in Hong Kong in December.

The team announcement included Dhawan along with players Iftikhar Ahmed and Sohail Tanvir. This led to confusion and questions about whether Dhawan agreed to play.

Dhawan wrote on X on Tuesday: “I have come across my name as a participant in the World T20 Continent Cup. My name has been used by the organisers without my knowledge or permission. My team will be taking the appropriate legal steps to address this.” He also asked media and fans not to trust any reports about his participation.

After Dhawan’s statement the tournament organisers confirmed he would not be part of the Asia Warriors squad. They said this was due to “scheduling conflicts and certain technical considerations ” according to India Today on Wednesday.

The organisers did not say why Dhawan’s name appeared in the squad in the place even though he had clearly denied giving permission.

The situation has raised concerns about how player participation’s verified in the tournament. The event is expected to include retired cricketers, from various regions.
