Srinagar: The Mughal Road was reopened to traffic on Thursday after snow clearance operations were completed following the season’s first snowfall, officials said. Meanwhile, restoration work is underway on the Uri National Highway after a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall blocked the road with large boulders and debris.

A senior traffic official said that snow had been cleared from the Mughal Road, making it motorable again. However, motorists have been advised to drive carefully in view of slippery road conditions.

Officials said personnel and machinery were deployed to clear the accumulated snow and facilitate the resumption of vehicular movement along the route.

In north Kashmir, the Uri National Highway was blocked on Wednesday evening after heavy rains triggered a landslide, sending massive boulders down the mountainside and obstructing traffic.

Officials said restoration work has commenced, with men and machinery deployed to remove the boulders and clear the debris. Efforts are being made to restore traffic movement and reconnect the affected stretch as soon as possible.

The ongoing clearance operations are aimed at restoring normal vehicular movement and minimising inconvenience to commuters travelling on the affected roads.
