The All Indian Student’s Association president, Neha Bora, was released this morning and CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke will be produced before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court, the police said.
The duo was detained on Friday in connection with the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest march at Connaught Place in the national capital.
Bora was released after the detention procedures under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act were completed, police said. Dipke was booked under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and was taken into custody, police added.
Dipke was also scheduled to have an appearance in front of the SEM court later Saturday.
The march was organised by the CJP to call for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls. The Election Commission and ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have denied all accusations of misconduct.
Security was stepped up in central Delhi ahead of the protest. Protesters turned up at the heart of the capital, Connaught Place, on Friday, even after the two organisers of the protest were detained.
The detentions received criticism from opposition leaders and student organisations over how the protesters had been treated.
