AAP announces first list of 40 candidates for 2027 Punjab elections
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday released its first list of 40 candidates for the 2027 Punjab Assembly polls, renominating Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann from Dhuri and Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan from Kotkapura.
The list, released by AAP National Secretary Pankaj Gupta after a meeting of the party’s Political Affairs Committee in Delhi, consists of incumbent MLAs, indicating the party’s trust in its existing MLAs.
One of the leading contenders is Cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora, who has been renominated from Ludhiana West even though he is in jail on an Enforcement Directorate money laundering case.
Four women candidates and seven Scheduled Caste candidates are also on the list, The Indian Express reported.
Other nominations include Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Ajnala, Inderbir Singh Nijjar, Amritsar South, Balkar Singh, Kartarpur and Dr Amandeep Kaur Arora, Moga.
AAP secured 92 out of Punjab’s 117 Assembly seats in 2022 elections and will again try to form a government in Punjab in 2027.
