Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has described the Democratic Party’s sweeping gains in the US midterm elections as a rejection of war, saying American voters had sent a clear message against the conflict with Iran.

“Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR and we agree,” Ghalibaf wrote on X on Wednesday.

He cautioned Washington that if it defied the wishes of its citizenry and bowed to ‘blackmailers and international paymasters,’ it would go through a ‘Nightmare’.

The Democratic gains could strengthen congressional oversight of Trump’s foreign policy and complicate his administration’s approach to Iran.

The election results come amid months of military standoff between Washington and Tehran, which has increased energy prices and raised fears about regional security.

Trump admitted the Iran episode was partly to blame for the Republican defeat but stood by his decision to use force.
