Virat Kohli became the first batter in ODI history to cross 13,000 runs batting at No. 3. Kohli achieved the feat when he scored the landmark during the first ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday.

The former India skipper had required just 12 runs before the match and he got there on the 13th ball of his innings when India was in the middle of the chase of 186.

Kohli has made 13,000 runs in 251 innings at no. 3, averaging 61.61, with 48 centuries and 69 half-centuries so far, Hindustan Times reported.

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, who scored 12,662 runs from 330 innings in the position, comes next on the chart behind Sangakkara.

He had already broken Ponting’s record for the most runs scored at No. 3 earlier this year. This latest feat is just more evidence of the incredible consistency he has displayed in the 50-overs format.

The 37-year-old is still making a mark on his One-Day International record, where he is now the second-highest run-scorer, after India’s Sachin Tendulkar.
