NC dissidents to meet again today ahead of talks with party; 4th meeting in past 7 days

Mubarak Gul with Omar Abdullah

Srinagar: Ahead of their meeting with the National Conference leadership scheduled for Friday morning, party legislators, upset over the recent cabinet-reshuffle-cum expansion, are expected to meet on Thursday evening to finalise their strategy for the talks, sources said.

Sources said that the legislators are likely to discuss their future course of action and prepare a common stand ahead of their meeting with the party leadership.

“The meeting is likely to be held at the residence of NC MLA Mubarak Gul today,” sources disclosed.

This would be the fourth meeting of the group, whose deliberations since October 30 have raised questions about the stability of the government.

In their memorandum submitted to the NC leadership, the group has demanded a restructuring of the Cabinet, including an assessment of the performance of ministers who have completed two years in office, and the removal of non-performers.

The legislators have also sought the withdrawal of the Roads & Buildings Department portfolio from Surinder Choudhary, who retained the department despite facing criticism from more than 20 legislators during the June 3 Dachigam meeting.

The group has also demanded the removal of the Chief Minister’s Advisor, Nasir Aslam Wani.

Earlier, it was reported that the dissident group is expected to meet the NC leadership on Friday morning to discuss its grievances. (KNO)
