Authorities are still searching for Indian national Vijaya Lakshmi Gali, who fell into a sinkhole in Kuala Lumpur on August 23, the Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur reported on Wednesday.

The High Commission stated that search and rescue (SAR) teams are exploring new potential routes and locations to find the missing woman. Vijaya Lakshmi Gali, 48, was walking to a temple for breakfast when the ground gave way, plunging her into the 8-meter-deep sinkhole, according to Malaysia’s The Star.

In a statement on X, the Indian High Commission said, “The search for Indian citizen Vijaya Lakshmi Gali, who fell into a sinkhole in Kuala Lumpur on August 23, is ongoing. SAR teams are exploring new probable paths and locations. Local authorities, including the Police, Fire & Rescue Department, Indah Water Consortium, and KL Federal Territories agencies, are supported by Civil Defence Forces and specialised scientific teams with advanced equipment.”

The search includes flushing parts of the drain system and using techniques such as high-pressure water jets to clear obstacles, as well as remote cameras and ground-penetrating radars. The High Commission added that officials are in regular contact with Gali’s family to provide support during this challenging time.
