Srinagar: A man from Srinagar was falsely implicated in a drug case by a group of conspirators seeking to cheat him out of his money.
According to the police, four people planted drugs in a car owned by Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Natipora, to frame him and take control of his money from a land deal.
The case surfaced on February 24 when advocate Yusha Yousuf Mir reported a suspicious car parked in Karan Nagar. Acting on the tip-off, police raided the location and found 452 grams of a charas-like substance inside the vehicle. Manzoor, the car’s owner, was called to the spot and arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
However, during the investigation, police uncovered a deeper conspiracy linked to a past financial dispute. The probe revealed that Mohammad Shafi Badyari of Natipora had borrowed Manzoor’s car under false pretence days before the incident. Badyari, along with Toufeeq Ali from Safakadal and Arshid Ahmad Wani from Pamposh Colony, planted the drugs inside the vehicle at Natipora before returning it to Manzoor at the scene of the raid.
After setting the trap, the police said Badyari allegedly tipped off the complainant, who then alerted the police. The drugs used in the plot were sourced through Zahoor Ahmad Mir and stored at a shop in Rambagh run by Rouf Ahmad Mir, police said.
“The motive was a land deal in Hyderpora. Manzoor had given the group money to buy property, but instead of completing the purchase, they decided to frame him in a drug case and keep the money for themselves,” a police official stated.
Following the accused’s confessions, more contraband was recovered. However, one of the key conspirators, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, is still missing, and further arrests are expected. The police have charged the accused under the NDPS Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
