Srinagar: Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 33.9°C on Tuesday — 5.9°C above normal — as a heatwave gripped several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, pushing temperatures well beyond seasonal averages.
Qazigund, often considered a gateway to the Valley, witnessed an unusually hot day at 34.6°C, equalling its third-highest maximum temperature ever recorded in June since 1962. This figure matches the 34.6°C recorded on June 23 last year.
The second-highest June temperature for Qazigund stands at 35.3°C (June 27, 1988), while the all-time highest is 35.7°C (June 26, 1988).
Other areas in the Valley also recorded significant departures from normal. Pahalgam registered 28.8°C (5.1°C above normal), Kupwara 32.8°C (4.6°C), Kokernag 32.8°C (6.6°C), and Gulmarg 24.0°C (5.2°C above normal).
The heat was more intense in the Jammu region, where Jammu city scorched at 44.4°C — 5.6°C above normal.
Katra followed closely at 40.6°C, while Banihal (34.1°C), Batote (33.3°C), and Bhaderwah (34.4°C) also reported high temperatures.
In the Union Territory of Ladakh, Leh recorded 26.0°C, while Kargil data remained unavailable.
