Right-wing group protests outside KFC, local eatery in Ghaziabad over sale of meat

Ghaziabad: Members of the right-wing group Hindu Raksha Dal staged protests on Thursday outside a KFC outlet and a local eatery named Nazir in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, demanding a halt to the sale of non-vegetarian food during the Hindu month of Sawan.

The demonstration led to the temporary shutdown of both establishments, disrupting operations, according to Aaj Tak. Videos of the protest have gone viral on social media.

In the footage, protesters are seen carrying saffron flags and chanting, “Jai Shri Ram” and “Har Har Mahadev.” One clip shows them pulling down the shutter of the KFC outlet, while another captures members entering the restaurant and confronting staff, insisting that only vegetarian food be served during Sawan.

Although no physical violence was reported, the group vocally opposed the sale of meat, citing religious sentiments. “All of these items should be banned in the month of Sawan,” one protester is heard saying.

Meanwhile, a well-known journalist Rajdeep Sardesai, posted on X, “UTTER IDIOCY: a self styled Hindu vigilante group storms a KFC outlet in Ghaziabad and forces it to shut down, saying can’t sell meat during the month of Sawan. Please don’t eat chicken, but why stop others? And why are cops missing in action yet again ? JIYO AUR JEENE DO for god sake! (By the way, what about the ‘mutton party’ of a BJP ally in Bihar?)”.
