Anantnag: A man involved in a 2021 UAPA case was arrested by Jammu and Kashmir Police in Anantnag after being identified through a Facial Recognition System (FRS) at the X-Ray Point in Ganishbal area of Pahalgam on Sunday.
The suspect, Muneeb Mushtaq Sheikh, a resident of Drangbal Pampore, was apprehended for his alleged involvement in a terror-related case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act.
Sheikh was immediately taken into custody and shifted to police station Pahalgam for verification. Investigations confirmed his involvement in FIR 28/2021, registered at Police Station Pampore under Sections 16, 18, and 20 of the UAPA and Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act.
Police officials said the swift identification and arrest demonstrate the effectiveness of surveillance technologies like facial recognition in tracking down wanted persons. JK Police reaffirmed its commitment to using modern tools to enhance security and maintain public safety.
