Srinagar: Ahead of August 15, deployment of armed forces has been intensified across Jammu and Kashmir. A multi-layered security arrangement, supported by ground and aerial surveillance, has been established throughout the union territory, including Srinagar, to prevent any untoward incidents.
Patrolling and checks have been increased, with additional Quick Response Teams (QRTs) deployed in Jammu city. Border grid deployment has been strengthened, with strict monitoring of all border roads and adequate measures in place to ensure a peaceful day.
The Army and Border Security Force have stepped up their vigil along the 225 km Line of Control (LoC) and the 192 km International Border (IB).
The police have issued an advisory in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, urging public cooperation during checks and requesting reporting of any suspicious activity or objects to the armed forces. Deployment along the Srinagar-Jammu highway has also been increased, with drones added to the monitoring efforts, All India Radio reported.
Cultural programmes and Har Ghar Tiranga campaigns are underway in schools, colleges, and government offices across all 10 districts of the Jammu region, fostering unity and pride as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. In Srinagar, chief minister Omar Abdullah and LG Manoj Sinha also participated in a Tiranga rally today.
The main Independence Day event in Jammu will take place at Maulana Azad Stadium, where Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary will unfurl the tricolour and take the salute. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will preside over the primary function at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar.
