Srinagar: Authorities have suspended all vehicular movement on the Srinagar-Jammu highway as of Monday, due to shooting stones triggered by continuous heavy rainfall in the Ramban district.

The closure is a precautionary measure to ensure public safety amid adverse weather conditions. Officials have advised commuters to avoid travel until the highway is cleared and weather conditions improve.

Currently, Banihal and surrounding areas are experiencing periods of rain, with temperatures ranging from 14°C to 21°C.The forecast indicates continued rainfall over the next few days, with temperatures remaining between 14°C and 21°C. Authorities have urged residents and travellers to stay alert and follow official advisories.

The Srinagar-Jammu highway is the only all-weather road linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.

Frequent closures during the rainy season often disrupt travel and supply movement. In response, the Vande Bharat train service has been introduced to provide an alternative mode of transport during such disruptions.
