Jammu: The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has ordered the closure of all government and private schools across the Jammu division for two days — October 6 and 7 — in view of the severe weather conditions predicted by the Meteorological Department.

“In light of the weather advisory issued by the India Meteorological Department predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Jammu Division, and to ensure the safety and security of students and staff, it is hereby ordered that all government and private schools across Jammu division shall remain closed on 06-10-2025 (Monday) and 07-10-2025 (Tuesday),” the DSEJ said in an official order.

The closure order comes as Jammu and Kashmir braces for widespread rain and snowfall triggered by an active Western Disturbance.

The IMD has sounded an orange alert from October 5 to 7, warning of heavy rainfall in low-lying areas and snowfall over higher reaches such as Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam. Authorities have also cautioned about possible landslides and road blockages, advising residents and travellers to stay alert.
