IIT Kanpur.

Kanpur: Two Kashmiri PhD scholars enrolled at IIT Kanpur have been missing for more than 15 days, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) said on Sunday.

According to the association, the scholars, who joined IIT Kanpur in 2019 and are currently pursuing their PhDs, went missing weeks apart.

One student has been untraceable since October 18, while the second has been missing since November 10.

JKSA said institute officials have informed them that they have no information about the students’ whereabouts.

Security has been tightened on campus as multiple agencies, including the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad, UP Police, Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) and other security wings, have launched a detailed investigation. Officials are examining student records, checking movement logs and gathering inputs to determine how the two scholars disappeared.

JKSA said the Uttar Pradesh government and the police headquarters have also sought a detailed report on nearly 150 Kashmiri students residing in Kanpur.

The association has urged authorities to expedite the investigation and ensure the safety and well-being of all Kashmiri students on campus.
