Srinagar: The Kashmir Valley shivered on Monday as temperatures fell sharply below freezing, with Srinagar recording its coldest night of the season at minus 3.2°C.
According to temperature data shared by local officials, several parts of the Valley witnessed severe cold conditions. Pulwama (minus 5.0°C), Shopian (minus 5.1°C), and Baramulla (minus 4.6°C) were among the coldest locations, while Pahalgam touched minus 4.0°C. The cold intensified in higher reaches, with Zojila Pass plunging to minus 16.0°C.
Other major stations also recorded sub-zero temperatures: Qazigund (minus 2.5°C), Kupwara (minus 3.2°C), Kokernag (minus 0.4°C), Gulmarg (minus 1.9°C), Budgam (minus 3.4°C), and Ganderbal (minus 2.5°C). At Srinagar Airport, the minimum stood at minus 3.6°C.
In south Kashmir, Pampore dropped to minus 4.5°C, while Awantipora (minus 3.2°C) and Sonamarg (minus 3.2°C) also remained under intense cold.
In the Jammu region, temperatures stayed comparatively higher, though upper areas still saw a sharp dip. Banihal recorded minus 1.2°C and Bhaderwah 0.5°C. Jammu city stood at 10.0°C, with nearby stations such as Katra (9.2°C), Kathua (9.2°C), and the Jammu Airport (9.9°C) remaining above freezing.
Ladakh continued to face harsh winter conditions. Leh recorded minus 8.2°C, Kargil minus 8.6°C, Drass minus 10.3°C, Nyoma minus 11.8°C, and Padum minus 9.3°C.
Officials said the cold wave is likely to persist, with clear skies contributing to further night-time cooling.
