Jammu: The government on Wednesday ruled out any plan to provide a monthly financial assistance scheme for young advocates, stating that extending such aid to one professional group would trigger similar demands from others, causing a significant strain on the exchequer.
Responding to a written question from legislator Shamim Firdous during the budget session of the Assembly, the Minister in charge of the Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs stated that “no such proposal is under consideration of the Government.”
The question sought to know whether the government intends to provide monthly financial assistance to young advocates with a legal practice of more than three years.
In his reply, the Minister acknowledged that while the government provides certain assistance to advocates, it was important to note that “other professionals and technocrats—many of whom are also licensed—do not receive any financial assistance.”
The government defended its stance, arguing that “providing such assistance to one category of professionals could lead to demands from other professional groups, which would carry significant financial implications.” (KNS)
