Decision on Srinagar, Budgam schools to be taken later today
Srinagar: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have decided to reopen educational institutions in eight districts of the Kashmir region on Wednesday, two days after ordering their closure as a precautionary measure.
Education Minister Sakina Itoo said schools, colleges and universities in eight districts will resume functioning, while a decision on Srinagar and Budgam districts will be taken later in the evening.
The institutions were shut on Sunday to ensure student safety following protests in parts of the region.
Meanwhile, schools up to Class 8 are also reopening after a winter break of over two months. Classes 9 to 12 had resumed on February 23 in the Kashmir division and winter zones of the Jammu division after a 70-day vacation.
Colleges in the Kashmir Valley earlier reopened on February 16 after a 52-day winter break, as announced by the Higher Education Department.
Authorities said further updates regarding Srinagar and Budgam will be issued later in the day.
