Budgam: clash broke out between two groups during a religious procession in Hardpanzoo area of Budgam on Sunday, prompting police to register an FIR and launch an investigation into the incident.
According to police, the incident involved followers of different groups within the Shia community. Officials said all those found responsible for instigating or participating in unlawful activity will face strict action under the law.
“Every aspect of the incident is being examined on the basis of evidence, and no individual found culpable will be spared, irrespective of affiliation,” police said, assuring a fair, impartial and professional investigation.
Police also took note of misleading and unverified content circulating on social media regarding the incident, warning that such misinformation could create panic, disturb public order and undermine communal harmony.
The public has been urged to exercise restraint, refrain from sharing rumours or inflammatory content, and rely only on information from official sources.
Police said social media is being closely monitored and warned that individuals found creating or amplifying false or provocative content to mislead the public or disrupt peace will face stringent legal action.
They also appealed to all sections of society to maintain peace, uphold communal harmony and cooperate with the investigation.
