Srinagar: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast a fresh spell of rain and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir from July 9, with heavy rainfall expected at isolated places during the next four days.

According to the latest forecast issued by the MeT Department, July 9 and 10 are likely to witness widespread rain and thunderstorms across the Union Territory, with intense showers expected at a few places.

For July 11 and 12, the weather office has predicted one or two spells of rain and thunderstorms at many places, accompanied by heavy rainfall at isolated locations.

The department has advised people to remain alert, particularly in vulnerable areas, as intense rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones in hilly and mountainous regions. Low-lying areas may also witness waterlogging during periods of heavy rain.

Authorities have urged commuters, tourists and residents to follow weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas during spells of intense rainfall. [KNT]
