Baramulla: Despite government claims of ensuring safe and adequate drinking water supply, residents of Karkroo Mohalla in Nambla area of Uri were alarmed after dead rats were allegedly found inside a drinking water storage tank and supply pipelines serving nearly 25 to 30 households.

The incident has raised serious concerns among residents over the hygiene and safety of the water being supplied to the locality. Residents urged the administration to take immediate action and ensure that the water is thoroughly cleaned and made fit for consumption.

Taking note of the issue, the Assistant Executive Engineer, PHE Uri, confirmed that the affected tank had already been cleaned and that water supply to the locality would be restored within an hour.

Residents have also called upon the department to introduce preventive measures and conduct regular inspections and cleaning of water storage tanks and pipelines to prevent such incidents from recurring.
