Jammu: A large number of BJP workers and leaders staged a protest at Dogra Chowk in Jammu on Monday, demanding the resignation of the Omar Abdullah-led government and accusing it of failing to implement promises made in its election manifesto.

The protesters, carrying BJP flags and banners, raised slogans against the government and put an effigy of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on fire during the demonstration.

BJP leaders and workers, including MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, MLA Vikram Randhawa and party leader Ashok Koul, were among those who assembled at Dogra Chowk for the protest.

The demonstration was organised over what the BJP described as the government’s failure on several fronts, including implementation of election promises, electricity supply, rising power bills, employment and development.

Police personnel were deployed in strength in the area to maintain law and order and regulate the situation as the protestors raised slogans against the government.

BJP MP Jugal Kishore Sharma said the National Conference-led government has failed on every front and described the demonstration as an expression of resentment among people in Jammu.

“This is the resentment of the people of Jammu against the government. The NC government has failed on every front,” Jugal Kishore said.

He cited high electricity bills, power curtailment, lack of employment opportunities and what he described as inadequate development as major concerns among people.

The protest continued amid slogans demanding the resignation of the Omar Abdullah government, while police maintained security arrangements around the demonstration site.
