First Squawk, on their X handle, reported that Yemen’s Houthi forces said on Monday they targeted a Saudi military landing ship and four accompanying military boats with ballistic missiles in the Red Sea off the coast of Mocha. Saudi authorities have not immediately confirmed the claim.
This follows a dramatic escalation of attacks by Houthis targeting Saudi-linked shipping and other military-related activities within and around the Red Sea. Earlier this month, the Houthi group’s claim of attacking an Egyptian-owned cargo ship with missiles off Yemen left four crew members and two Yemeni rescuers dead, according to Yemeni authorities.
In July, the Houthis declared a maritime embargo against Saudi Arabia, which they have claimed several attacks on vessels linked to the kingdom. As a result, their most recent claim will only amplify existing concerns about the state of maritime.
