Authorities have predicted additional monsoon rain over upper and northern Pakistan through Friday and urged vigilance in areas prone to heavy rain that could cause flooding or landslides.
“There is a chance of scattered heavy rainfall, especially over upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir”, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said in a forecast that expected rain and thunderstorms in Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Punjab and adjoining mountainous regions as well as Islamabad until Friday.
The National Disaster Management Authority has also issued rainfall and flood warnings for upper areas in the country.
Rainfall over Pakistan and upstream areas is likely to continue through September. 5, the National Flood Forecasting Centre, Pakistan Meteorological Department said.
Increased water flows may be observed over major rivers of Pakistan as well as in upper Punjab and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region during the mentioned period.
Heavy rain has been disrupting parts of Northern Pakistan and caution has been advised for both locals and travellers near rivers and mountainous areas, which have a high risk of flash floods and landslides in the heavy rainfall season of the country, a local media reported.
