A Binnish munitions depot located east of Idlib suffered an explosion wounding a number of civilians. Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced Tuesday, with little details available on the incident.
The British-based monitor said the explosion occurred at a depot of weapons used for firing in Binnish but a conclusive number of injuries remained unavailable in the initial stages; neither was the reason for such a massive explosion clarified.
No immediate statements were made by the Syrian authorities with explanations concerning the incident. No figures were immediately available on either victims or reasons behind the explosion, nor has the statement yet been verified independently by third parties.
Binnish is one of the Syrian provinces situated in the northwest of Syria’s terrain, known as Idlib province and has suffered years of conflict as it remains in one of the world’s deadliest territories for unexploded munitions and lethal residue from armed conflict.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the total number of war remnants and landmines or different explosive devices used in such conflict, has killed and wounded several people. It was reported last week that the total victims of explosives and landmines accounted for 16 dead and 41 wounded individuals since August began.
This latest explosive incident also adds to ongoing worries that security is deteriorating in Idlib province after numerous explosions attributed to depots and the remnants left from Syria’s prolonged battle.
