Srinagar: Heavy rainfall triggered waterlogging in several parts of Pahalgam on Tuesday, with water accumulating on roads and entering some hotels, shops, and the taxi stand, while the Lidder River witnessed a rise in its water level.
Several videos emerging from the popular south Kashmir tourist destination showed water accumulating on roads near the bus stand, with locals and shopkeepers attempting to prevent water from entering commercial establishments.
A local resident, however, told FPK that the waterlogging appeared to have been aggravated by blocked drainage, saying the accumulated rainwater was unable to drain from the streets near the bus stand.
The heavy spell of rain also led to increased flow in the Lidder River, with the water level rising and the river remaining swollen.
Reports from Pahalgam said several roads and low-lying areas were affected, disrupting normal movement and making travel difficult for commuters and visitors. One report suggested that water entered some hotels, shops and the taxi stand in the town.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar had warned that intense showers at vulnerable locations could trigger flash floods, mudslides and landslides. While rainfall activity was expected to decline from Wednesday, isolated to scattered rain or thundershowers remained possible across Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the Kashmir Flood Watch system showed the Lidder Nallah at Batkoot and other monitored water bodies in the region below their warning levels as of Wednesday morning.
