Russian media reported an apparent explosion involving a car in the Gagarinsky district of Sevastopol on Wednesday that wounded at least one person, with emergency and investigative services working at the scene.
The explosion occurred early Wednesday and a man was injured, Russian media reports said. While investigators worked to determine the cause and circumstances of the blast, medical personnel were treating the injured man.
Other Russian media quoted witnesses who said they heard a large explosion in the area around 6:45 a.m. and that authorities were fencing off the site. Whether anyone was inside the car when it exploded was a subject of conflicting reports.
Russian authorities did not immediately confirm the vehicle was carrying explosives and there was no immediate indication of who may have been behind the blast. The circumstances were still being investigated.
Sevastopol is a major Black Sea port in Crimea, which Russia seized from Ukraine in 2014 in a move widely condemned internationally. Ukraine considers Crimea to be part of its territory.
The incident comes amid ongoing attacks and explosions in Crimea and other Russian-controlled areas as the war between Russia and Ukraine enters its fifth year.
