Iranian media said an oil tanker hit off Iran’s Kharg Island was evacuated by its crew with no reported casualties in what it called a suspected US missile attack.

Iran’s Student News Network quoted local sources saying a missile attack struck a small Iranian oil tanker off Kharg Island, adding that no casualties were reported. Iranian media also reported the crew had safely evacuated the damaged vessel.

The reports could not be immediately confirmed independently.

Multiple explosions were reported earlier Saturday near Kharg Island, a major Iranian oil export terminal, by the Fars news agency. There were no immediate signs of smoke and the source of the explosions was unknown.

Four projectiles struck the tanker as it was unloading, Asr Iran reported, Reuters said.

The reported tanker incident comes as US-Iran hostilities have flared up again and tensions have risen around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global energy supplies.
