Monsoon flooding and waterlogging have disrupted daily life in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, central India, with roads inundated and floodwaters entering buildings after days of heavy rain, Local media reports.
Heavy rains struck several areas of Satna city, with low-lying areas being particularly hard hit. Local reports said that by the morning of Sept. 2, more than 90 mm of rain had fallen, including 56 millimetres in three hours.
The flood also hit rural areas around Satna district. In Sohas village, waterlogged roads prevented vehicles from reaching a home and forced relatives to carry an ill farmer on a cot to a safer location, Amar Ujala reported.
In the larger Satna – Chitrakoot region, the Mandakini River also rose sharply after heavy rains. Some homes, shops and other properties were flooded. Railway and road links were also affected.
Reports said the river had crossed the former major flood level in 2003. Rescue and relief teams had been deployed by authorities in affected areas.
Indian media reports did not immediately provide a full assessment of damage in the city of Satna or confirm the number of casualties from the latest flooding.
The India Meteorological Department has been issuing warnings of heavy rain in Madhya Pradesh, with the monsoon conditions continuing to remain active.
