Pakistani sources quoted by Türkiye Today say if Saudi Arabia makes a formal request for military assistance, Pakistan will consider airstrikes against Yemen’s Houthi rebels, a move that could put the freshly inked Mecca defence pact to an early test.
The publication quoted a Pakistani source as saying that attacks could take place soon and be announced afterwards, but that there was no final decision on whether Pakistan would strike Houthi positions in Yemen. One potential military target, the source said, would be to force the Houthis out of Saada and other territories.
The report follows a major attack by Houthi drones and missiles on Saudi Arabia that injured more than 70 people and hit civilian and energy installations, Saudi officials and Pakistani reporting said.
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the three-nation Kingdom arrangement with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye will become operational if the Kingdom faces aggression. It says an armed attack against one member is to be regarded as an attack against all three.
Any Pakistani strikes in Yemen would represent a major escalation of the regional conflict and could risk a resumption of a wider confrontation between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-aligned Houthis.
