As fighting between the Saudi-backed government and the Iran-aligned Houthi intensified, Yemeni government forces said on Friday that 30 Houthi fighters had been killed and more than 60 had been injured during 24 hours of clashes and air strikes in Taiz province.
The casualties were reported in the Al-Waziyah district west of Taiz, according to Yemen’s Armed Forces Media Centre, which cited a military source. The source added that Yemeni warplanes targeted Houthi vehicles and gathering sites in the area.
Government forces also said their air force had targeted Houthi supply lines, deployment points and reinforcements in Taiz and the Red Sea port city of Mocha.
The latest fighting comes as the Yemen conflict has escalated sharply, with Houthi forces making territorial gains along the Red Sea coast and ramping up attacks on Saudi Arabia. Recent fighting had spread across several former front lines including Taiz, Marib and the Red Sea coastal strip, Reuters reported Thursday.
