Houthi-linked media on Tuesday reported that at least nine prisoners were killed in a Saudi airstrike on a prison in Yemen’s Al-Jawf province overnight as fighting between the Iran-aligned group and Saudi-backed Yemeni forces intensifies.
The strike targeted a prison in the provincial capital of Al-Hazm, the report said. Inmates at the facility reportedly suffered casualties.
The report could not be independently verified and there was no immediate comment from Saudi authorities.
The strike comes as part of a wider escalation across Yemen, where Houthi forces have been fighting Saudi-backed government forces on a number of fronts. Earlier this month, an airstrike by a Saudi-led coalition struck a Houthi-run prison in Al-Hazm, killing at least 23 people as rescuers pulled bodies from the rubble, The Associated Press reported.
The Houthis said the strike was carried out by Saudi Arabia with an F-15SA fighter jet, but Saudi authorities did not immediately respond.
