The Saudi‑led military coalition said that the Saudi‑led military coalition intercepted and destroyed a missile launched by Yemen’s Iran‑backed Houthi fighters toward Riyadh.
Coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki al‑Maliki announced the interception in a statement posted on social media platform X according to Anadolu Agency.
The incident comes amid repeated Houthi fighter missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia. The Houthi fighters target airports, military bases and energy plants.
Residents in Riyadh reported hearing explosions on Wednesday. There were no reports of casualties or damage from the latest big missile interception, The Associated Press reported.
Saudi authorities said earlier that scrap from two intercepted cruise missiles had injured four people and caused damage to 15 homes in the capital.
The escalation has heightened concerns over the security of Saudi Arabia’s infrastructure, including oil facilities and airports. Saudi forces have continued intercepting missiles and drones while the coalition has carried out strikes on Houthi‑controlled areas, in Yemen.
The Houthis have repeatedly targeted territory amid intensifying hostilities linked to the wider conflict involving Iran and the United States.
