Srinagar: The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) on Wednesday ordered a change in school timings across the Kashmir Division with effect from October 15, amid a sharp dip in temperatures and a forecast of inclement weather in the Valley.

As per the order, the timing for schools falling within the municipal limits of Srinagar has been fixed from 10am to 3:30pm.

For schools falling outside the municipal limits of Srinagar district and other areas of Kashmir Province, the revised timing will be from 10:30 am to 4pm

The order stated that the revised timings shall apply to both government and recognised private schools across the Kashmir Division. All concerned institutions have been directed to adhere strictly to the instructions without any deviation.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast light to moderate rain at many places across Jammu and Kashmir, with light snowfall over higher reaches, accompanied by thunder, gusty winds and hailstorms at isolated places towards late afternoon to late night and early morning of October 15.

According to the MeT forecast, generally dry weather is expected on October 16, with a brief spell of light rain at isolated places. From October 17 to 24, generally dry weather is likely to prevail, while cloudy conditions with light rain and snowfall over higher reaches are expected at scattered places from October 25 to 27.

The MeT Centre has also advised the safe storage of harvested apples, paddy and other crops on October 14 and 15 in view of the inclement weather.

Travellers, transporters and the general public have been advised to plan accordingly and follow traffic advisories, as thunder, gusty winds and light snowfall may affect important passes, roads and highways.
