CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has said he is “ready to go to jail” ahead of protests planned in Delhi and Mumbai on Friday to demand accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, The Indian Express reported.
The party has called for a gathering at Central Park in Delhi’s Connaught Place at 5 p.m. and a separate protest at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan to express solidarity with jailed party leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das.
“Delhi Police can detain me tonight or tomorrow morning, but we are not going to be scared by this. We will peacefully go and wave the Tiranga. If we have to go to jail to wave the Tiranga in this country, then we are ready for it,” Dipke told NDTV.
Ranka and Das were remanded to five-day judicial custody on Wednesday after they entered Jantar Mantar in Delhi, flouting restrictions and raising slogans for Kumar’s resignation.
The agitations are related to charges of irregularities during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The Election Commission has refuted reports of bias in the revision of the voters’ list.
Delhi Police has asked citizens to avoid participating in the assembly due to prohibitory orders in Connaught Place and nearby areas. Authorities said they could facilitate a group of 11 people to carry the national flag and sing the national anthem at a suitable location.
Mumbai Police has allowed the Azad Maidan protest.
