Srinagar: The Supreme Court Collegium has cleared the proposal for the appointment of nine advocates as judges of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
At its meeting held on October 29, the Collegium approved the proposal for the appointment of Vishal Sharma, Vikram Kumar Sharma, Namgyal Wangchuk, Pawan Kumar Kundal, Tahir Majid Shamsi, Tabasum Zafar, Amit Gupta, Pranav Kohli and Anupam Raina as judges of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The proposal now forms part of the process for appointment of the recommended candidates to the High Court.
The appointment of High Court judges is governed by the constitutional collegium system. Under the established procedure, names for appointment are considered by the Supreme Court Collegium, comprising the Chief Justice of India and senior-most judges of the Supreme Court.
Once the Collegium recommends names, the proposals are processed by the union government before being sent to the President of India for formal appointment.
The appointments are notified after completion of the prescribed procedure.
