New Delhi: Minister of State for Science and Technology of India Jitendra Singh on Thursday alleged that certain individuals were receiving funds from US-based donors and Pakistani political figures to build narratives against the government, claiming that intelligence agencies had evidence of such activities.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Jitendra Singh questioned the credibility and funding sources of those making allegations against the government of India, accusing them of attempting to manufacture narratives after losing political ground.
“There is enough evidence from intelligence sources and existing statistics that what is being said has no basis, evidence or proof,” he said.
Dr Jitendra Singh alleged that some individuals were receiving financial support from foreign sources, including US-based donors and Pakistani political figures.
The minister also accused the Congress of practising selective politics on issues concerning education and examination paper leaks.
Questioning the party’s position on the NEET examination controversy, Dr Singh asked why similar protests were not being raised over paper leaks in Punjab and Karnataka.
“Was NEET not applicable in Punjab? Did paper leaks not happen in Punjab? The latest paper leaks happened in Karnataka. Why did the education minister there not raise the issue?” he asked.
He said the public, particularly the younger generation, was increasingly informed and could verify claims through social media and electronic media.
Dr Jitendra Singh further accused certain groups of attempting to shift political battles from electoral platforms to the streets after failing to secure public support through elections.
“When they are not able to win an election through the ballot box, they think they can win it on roads and streets, which will never happen in a country like India,” he said.
Responding to a question on the Congress’s criticism of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, Dr Jitendra Singh accused the party of using the issue to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said every citizen had the right to respond to what he described as abusive remarks against the prime minister.
Asked whether cases had been registered over the alleged foreign funding, Dr Jitendra Singh said the matter is being handled by intelligence and other concerned agencies.
“These matters are dealt with in secrecy. When the appropriate time comes, the Home Ministry or the concerned agencies themselves will share the information with the people,” he said. (KNS)
