Samples of dead crows from Peerbagh in Srinagar test positive for Bird Flu

Srinagar: Samples from dead crows near Athwajan and Peerbagh have tested positive for avian influenza, H5N8 strain, as per the Srinagar District Administration.

The admin said that as per guidelines, a 10 kilometre radius around the locations has been declared as an ‘alert zone’.

Earlier, dead crows were found in parts of Jammu and an alert had been sounded in Kashmir. Samples from Poonch had tested positive for bird flu on Jan 31.

On Feb 1, dead crows were found in the Uri region of Kashmir.

The administration had earlier responded by banning all poultry imports into Kashmir, which was subsequently withdrawn due to unknown reasons.

Due to the presence of migratory birds, controlling the flu has proven to be a tough task.
