Be a statesman, take bold steps to solve K-issue: Hurriyat (G) tells Modi

‘Roads, tunnels not the solution, K-resolution needs ‘extra-ordinary’ courage’

Srinagar: Hurriyat (G) on Sunday told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that developmental projects are no substitute to youth’s aspirations and he should act like a ‘statesman’ and take bold steps to solve Kashmir issue.

Hurriyat had called a shutdown on his visit and in the statement they said that the strike should serve as an eye opener and a severe message that the Kashmir issue cannot be solved with such ‘cosmetic’ measures.

“Modi has two options, either to follow his predecessors with folded eyes or be a statesman and make history by taking bold steps, “the statement said.

“Taking into consideration the yearning for freedom and our struggle since last 70 years, all these exercises will prove futile to change the course we have been pursuing since long,” the statement pointed out.

Hurriyat said that construction of roads and tunnels will not solve the political turmoil and the hard realties on ground in the valley. That will need ‘extra-ordinary’ courage.

“Improving connectivity through roads and tunnels is a good idea but such projects do not serve any purpose to political and human issues. Kashmir issue is a serious and sensitive political issue. As such extraordinary courage is needed to resolve Kashmir issue,” the statement observed.
