After valley patient denied treatment at PGI, institute orders probe
A 55-year old woman was told, “You pelt stones at our Jawans and then come here for treatment”
Srinagar: Nasreena Malik, a 55 year old Kashmiri woman was denied treatment at the Chandigarh’s Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) after the doctor came to know that she hailed from the valley.
He allegedly told her that ‘you pelt stones at our jawans and then come here for treatment’.
The incident was reported by the Hindustan Times.
The patient was also accompanied by her son Javid Malik.
Malik told Hindustan Times that the doctor, at first, behaved properly however as soon as he saw the case history of SKIMS, he got angry.
“He just got angry and threw away the documents and said that ‘Vahan Kashmir mein humaray jawano ko patthar marte ho aur phir yahan ilaj ke liye aate ho’ (You people pelt stones on our soldiers in Kashmir and then come here for treatment),” Mailk said.
After the incident came to light, PGI has ordered a probe into the matter.
“This is a first for us. Kashmiris come here for treatement and we never had such a complaint. We will look into the matter,” said the Public Relations Officer of PGI.
