Malik files FIR against journalist for ‘forcing herself in his bedroom’

Srinagar: At a time when Indian TV news channels have been criticised for their “biased” reporting on Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik, on Friday claimed that a senior journalist “forced” herself in his bedroom.

Addressing a hurriedly called presser at JKLF’s Abi Guzar office in Lal Chowk, a visibly disturbed Malik castigated the mainland India media.

Inhone Journalism ki Ismatdari karidi (They have violated the noble profession of journalism),” he yelled.

Detailing the events which started unfolding around 5 in the morning today, Malik said that it is his routine to take nap again after offering Fajr namaz (pre-dawn prayers).

“I was still in bed when I saw a so-called Journalist who claimed to represent — (name with held),” he said, “I was shocked to see her at the door of my room along with a cell phone in her hand which was put on (video) record mode.”

“The journalist has torn apart the civilized norms,” he said, “when she entered our home, she told my sister that she had fixed an appointment with me at 5:30 am.”

Challenging that he will quit politics, Malik said, “The (lady) journalist has claimed that she had a phone interaction with me prior to this incident. Mein siyasat say retirement dun ga agar uss nay miss call bhi di hogi (I will retire from the politics if she would have even given a miss call on Malik’s number).”

Perturbed, Malik rushed to Police Station Maisuma and filed a complaint against the journalist.

“I was still sleeping and all of a sudden the female TV journalist started asking questions to me,” he further said. “When her cell phone caught my attention, I snatched it.”

“I ask the journalist community of India and J&K whether this is the way to interview a person,” Malik questioned.

Malik said he has filed a formal complaint against the reporter for “breaching the privacy of a person.”

Following registration of complaint by Malik, police have filed a case under FIR number 30/2017 under section 448 RPC in Police Station Maisuma against the journalist “for forcibly entering the bed room of JKLF chief”.
